Mental Health

ESU 1 can assist schools in developing and sustaining comprehensive systems to support student and adult well-being. Over the past several years, this has taken place through the hosting of the School Mental Health Institute, which included training and technical assistance as part of a project funded by the Nebraska Department of Education. Additionally, the mental health team contributes to continuous improvement in staff well-being measurement and supports within ESU #1.

Services We Provide

Components of comprehensive school mental health that the ESU #1 Mental Health team can support schools to learn about, install, and sustain include:

  • Teaming - integration of mental health with existing school teaming structure
  • Needs assessment - streamlining mental health with existing school supports and community partners
  • Screening - identification of those who are at-risk or have mental health needs
  • Universal supports (tier 1) - school-wide, and classroom-level supports for mental health
  • Targeted supports (tiers 2 & 3) - evidence-based intervention for mental health, triage, and referrals
  • Adult well-being in schools
  • Sustainability and measuring impact
  • Suicide risk assessment and triage
