Nebraska Educational Service Units (ESUs) were established in 1965 by the Nebraska Legislature as political subdivisions. Since then, some service areas have consolidated. To support coordination among the ESUs, the Nebraska Education Service Unit Coordinating Council (ESUCC) was established through LB 603 in 2007 and officially began operations on July 1, 2008.
All 17 ESUs in Nebraska offer a consistent set of core services, along with customized offerings—defined through a Master Service Agreement—to meet the unique needs of schools in their legislatively defined regions.
